UPDATE ON HORSE TRANSPORTATION

Measures implemented to avoid the spreading of the CoVid-19 virus are also affecting (inter)national horse transport.

ROAD TRANSPORTATION

Transport of live horses by road for recreative purposes is not allowed since all sport and recreational events are currently not allowed.

Commercial transport however is still possible, including commercial transport of horses. This is the case in most European countries, except for France, Italy and Spain.  Please note that you will need the required commercial permits and licenses should you decide to transport your horse(s) and that you will be checked and asked to prove the ‘commercial transportation’ character.

Please consider that, due to the increased checks, the waiting time at international border might be considerably longer then normal.  Situtations are changing very rapidly sometimes.

Road transportation for emergency reasons, also non-commercial, (f.e. you need to take a horse to the veterinary clinic) is possible since the animal’s welfare should be guaranteed at all times.

AIR TRANSPORTATION

Although most countries have not implemented restrictions for the import & export of horses, it is a difficult exercise in these challenging times.

A number of airlines have decided not to accept any live animals for the period of the crisis. But the main issue are the grooms or flight attendants who are accompanying the horses. Since there are stringent travelling restrictions for people, it has become very difficult to get flight attendants to certain destinations, not to mention the hassle to get them back home safely and without any further (quarantine) measures.

More specifically this means that currently only horse flights from Europe to USA and Egypt are still being operated in a (more or less) normal way.  For horse shipments to other destinations, we advise you to contact our travel office.
